Henry
Jones is a writer, musician and photographer, who was born and raised
in New York City. Mr. Jones is a trained musician with a passion
for world music. Having study African Drumming and Dance as well
as other
musical cultures of the world such as the music of the Caribbean,
music of India and Bali, to name a few. For the past nine years,
Mr. Jones
has worked and lived in the city of Stamford Connecticut. Mr. Jones
has completed showings at numerous venues within Stamford Connecticut,
among them most noteworthy is a "one artist" show at The
Ferguson Library main branch. Mr. Jones uses photography in the traditional
sense, as well as employing a computer-generated technique to some
of his images. This application of computer technology allows his photographs to take on a new existence. Mr. Jones will present his photographed images on all types of material such as matte, cloth, silk and canvas, which further increases the visual effect of the end product. As a photographer Mr. Jones typically opts to focus on expressions of culture, people of color and displays of musicianship. " As an artist, my focus is on exploring the world of cultural expression as that expression exists here in the United States. I specifically focus on expressions of culture that are directly associated to people of color. I continue to travel around the nation searching for cultural events, celebrations and rituals to photograph. I also employ the usage of various technologies when creating some of my works. The use of technology allows me “artistic license” to further develop an image to meet my minds’ eye and extend the passion of my own vision. I then chose to produce these images on various mediums such as watercolor paper, silver metal paper and even traditional canvas. The beauty of American society is continually being taken for granted. America is and always has been the melting pot of the world. There are so many different types of people and cultural practices that are here and alive within in our own societies. I strive to bring those images to the foreground and share them with whoever will enjoy them. My mask images are examples of my focus on ethnic features. The eyes, noses, mouths and shape of faces that are not your “cosmopolitan sheik”, rather the more natural beauty that I believe goes unnoticed and unappreciated. The expressions that I most delight in retrieving photographically are those images associated with ethnic music, dance, vocal expressions, jazz, and blues, church and drumming. " -Henry Jones |
