Infinite Roots African Drum and Dance

Habari gani!
Infinite Roots is a program for both children and adults. The program is geared toward introducing audiences to the wonderful world of West African Drumming and Dance. Infinite Roots has been in existence for over six years throughout Fairfield County, with performances throughout the tri-state area. Henry Jones, the founder and Master Drummer of Infinite Roots, created this unique program. Mr. Jones is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, proficient in over thirteen instruments. Mr. Jones has been drumming and performing professionally for over twenty-five years. Mr. Jones has also produced CD recorded projects for a number of area poets and has recently completed his first solo CD project entitled: “Heartland”.

Infinite Roots is a flexible program that is designed to cater to any audience size. Workshops and performances have been created for audiences as little as five participants to as many as five hundred. Infinite Roots presents its’ workshops with authentic West African instruments to include the following: Djembe, Doundoun, Sangban, Kekeni, Agogo, Shakere’, Balafon, Ekasa Shaker, Sabar’, Mbira and other sorted instruments. The following are the ultimate goals of an Infinite

Roots presentation:

1. Teach how music is one of the greatest methods of sharing thoughts and ideas.
2. Teaching non-verbal communication through music.
3. Introduction to “non-traditional” instrumentation.
4. Introduction to African Song and the method of “call and response”.
5. Hands on experience with African Instruments. (Limited to audience size and time.)
6. Introduction to the “Nguzo Saba” (the seven principles associated with the celebration of Kwanzaa). Through this activity participants are also introduced to the language of Kiswahili.
Infinite Roots is a great way to begin the journey of recognizing the world. All cultures have their own indigenous music and dance. Infinite Roots invites anyone and everyone of any cultural origin to go out and discover who they are through music. Most of all, Infinite Roots invites its’ audiences to go out discover themselves, then share their discoveries with others. Simply put: “Music can make the world go round.”
